Keep Fit While You Travel…

If you’re heading on vacation or a business trip. The last thing you want to do is throw you fitness program out the window. There’s nothing worse than week in paradise derailing your fitness program. The following are five tips that can help you stay on track.

Travel Tip #1: Understand the purpose of your vacation

Make sure you do not abandon all of your healthy habits only to return feeling like you need to be a “slave” to your workouts in order to make up for all the weight you gained. Most times trying to lose the pounds you gained on vacation is tougher than it was the first time. Stay true to your fitness regimen and come back rejuvenated!

Travel Tip #2: Plan for your travels

If you know ahead of time that you will be over-indulging, vamp up your exercise and eating habits before you leave. Try to begin a few weeks prior to leaving. Shedding 5-8 pounds in advance will provide you some flexibility while you are on vacation.

Travel Tip #3: Meal Management Strategies

DON’T skip meals! If you do, you metabolism will slow down and your body will go in to starvation mode and will pack away food in your fat-stores. What does this mean? You will gain weight! Not the healthy kind either. So each six small meals throughout the days…starting with breakfast. You will have more energy and you will burn more fat.

Travel Tip #4: Plan your Binges

Let’s face it; you probably won’t be good all the time. So plan those cheat meals. So if you know you’re going to have a big lunch, avoid overindulging during breakfast. Make your other meals that day light and more supportive. Try to keep you meals as healthy as possible, and be conscious of portion size.

Travel Tip #5: Gym no gym

When you on vacation it is OK to sit by the pool, but you still need to get moving to burn calories. Pre-plan and try to make sure your hotel has a gym. Find out what equipment they have and plan your workouts. However, if there isn’t a gym at your resort of choice or you just want to stay in your room, you can still get a great workout. You do not need any equipment to fit a fantastic fat burning workout into your vacation plans. All you need is a little space and your own body-weight!
